Puzzle Handprints

This is a genius gift that people will cherish for years. It takes a twist on the classic handprint idea and turns it into a puzzle! My mom is the creator behind these. She’s a talented woodworker but assures me anyone can do this project. Personally, I’m going to leave the woodcutting up to her on this one, but I can see how you could use foam or other material recycled material if you don’t have a jigsaw, handsaw, etc.

  1. First, trace your little one’s hand. Then transfer the paper drawing onto your final material (wood, foam, etc.). Now start cutting!
  2. Once you’re finished, paint your handprint, let it dry and then put it back together.
  3. You can use a plain board to cut your hand out of like you see here, but to dress it up a bit, consider framing it. Just take an ordinary picture frame, and use the inside to determine your size. Then slide the finished handprint into the frame, and you have an instant piece of art. Feel free to do both hands, footprints, etc. Good luck!
