Mosaics is a great activity for any age. A couple of years ago, I got really ambitious and decided to make a lot of my own Christmas gifts. I come from a family who makes a lot of their own things, so I thought it would be a great way for us (me and my kids) to create some great memories and give some gifts from the heart.
Little side and end tables are great gift ideas. They are relatively easy to find (I sometimes pick up unique ones at thrift stores) and they are cheap, too. By the way, if you’re looking for something similar, pick up a plain wooden stool at Michaels, Joanne’s or your local craft store. They have an area of wooden items…chests, stools, etc….and you can nearly always find a 40% off coupon online to print and use, so it makes it really cheap!
Anyway, back to this project. Here’s how I did it.
1. I wanted to create a Green Bay Packers table for my father-in-law who is a big fan. So I went to Goodwill and found this table with great lines. As a bonus, it had a little ledge to it, which is nice bonus when your’e doing mosaics.
2. I cleaned up the table and painted it yellow. Looking back, I probably would have opted for a brighter yellow. But it works and gets the Packer theme across.
3. I printed off the classic “G” of the packers logo, cut it out and then traced it onto the table.
4. Using glass tiles that I bought off of Ebay, I first filled in the G with white and then finished the rest off with green. While I had to do the edges of the letter so the G would really come through, the kids were able to help me with the rest of it.
5. I covered the tiles with grout, wiped the top down with a sponge and then let it dry for a few days.
It made a great gift. I bet I would have paid $50 or $60 for something like this from an artist, but it only cost me $15 or $20 for the thrift store table and all the supplies. I keep telling myself I’m going to do an OU one next. But then again, that was two years ago.

This is just plain cute. Nice job.
